Kat Gets the Bubbly at Spa
Having missed out on 2 previous rounds of MSV F3 cup (due to mechanical
woes and financial reasons), Kat Impey made an impressive debut at the
famous Belgian Spa 4.4mile race circuit.
The MSV F3 Cup joined drivers from the Austrian F3 Championship. This
made up an impressive 45 car grid, for two races.
Despite facing drivers far more familiar with the circuit, Impey finished
an impressive forth in race one followed by a third place podium in race
two.
With the Austrian F3 Cup allowing newer cars to take part, the MSV
F3 Cup field faced a tough task to compete with their counterparts. However,
the gulf in class wasn't present in qualifying, as Impey claimed 13th
overall on the grid for race one. As the MSV F3 cars held their own around
the daunting venue. Impey improved for the second qualifying session,
securing a 11th grid slot for race two.
Race One
Impey found herself boxed in at the start of the first race and lost
two place's but by the end of the opening lap of the 4.4mile circuit
she had made up three place's. The Wokingham racer was charging very
hard on a circuit she had not raced before and by the chequered flag
had managed to work her way up to a credible fourth place.
Race Two
Starting from 11th on the grid for race two, Impey made a great start
diving down the inside of the famous La source hairpin and making up
4 places, by the penultimate lap. Impey was hounding 3rd place man through
Eau Rouge and made a fantastic slipstream move into 3rd place, but the
fight wasn't over and had to defend all the way to the finish line, crossing
one tenth of a second a head to take a well deserved 3rd place.
Impey
said "It was a fantastic weekend for me, not only to finish
on the podium, but my very first time I've been to the Belgium Spa circuit!
I think doing some research and simulations paid off because the circuit
felt familiar.
I hope this proves I deserve the backing to go all the
way. Its tough out there trying to find backing but I know I have the
potential to succeed and can be a great ambassador for female sportsmen"
