Kat Opens Season on the New Snetterton 300 Circuit
Katharine Impey took the second row in qualifying on the brand new Snetterton
300 circuit. Ex Formula one driver, Jonathan Palmer invested £10million
in to the new venue. MSVR Cup F3 were one of the fortunate few
to be the first to race on the newly designed track.
For the opening round of the 2011 season Impey raced with the Milton
Keynes-based team Lanan Racing, along with her two team mates, Mark Terry
and Alex Craven.
After an eventful start which saw Impey fighting for the lead, her two
team mates, Mark Terry and Alex Craven touched off the start, resulting
in Terry being launched in to the air and flipping over. This brought
the race to a premature stop.
On the restart Impey got another good start, slotting in to third place,
behind her team mate Craven. Craven and Impey were soon under pressure
from last years F3 champion Chris Needham. After a good close battle,
Needham managed to work his way up to second place, demoting Craven to
third and Impey to fourth. All three drivers pushing hard and breaking
from the rest of the pack. The dice for second changed between Needham
and Craven lap after lap, with Impey following closely behind, waiting
for an opportunity to pounce. With little time remaining, Impey pushed
hard to close in on the fighting pair, as she closed the gap, the chequered
flag fell, Needham taking second and Craven taking the third place, with
Impey finishing very closely behind in a creditable fourth place.
After the race she said: “I felt I had good pace, the fastest off
the start, and one of the quickest drivers on cold tires. There is still
gains to be made, for example, working on my upper body fitness, so I
don't fade slightly during the race due to muscle fatigue. However to
be on the pace of reigning champion, Chris Needham is a strong start.”
Impey would like to thank all of the support from her current sponsors,
PINK, Tyger design and print, Oakingham Construction, family and friends.
She is also inviting offers from potential sponsors.
