Front Row of the Grid for Kat at Anglesey
Katharine Impey took to the front row in qualifying at the Anglesey
circuit in north Wales, in the BRSCC Formula 3 championship last weekend.
For the second time this year Kat ran with the Milton Keynes based team
Lanan Racing, currently one of the top teams in the championship.
Qualifying
for both races was held on the Saturday. Impey was running in second
position for most of the session but eventually squeezed out to third
in the dying moments, with Lanan team mate Alex Craven taking pole. However
in the second qualifying, Impey made it a one-two for Lanan racing by
snatching second position for the Sunday race!
Race One
Impey made a good start in the first race on Saturday, but was squeezed
down to fourth.
By hard charging Needham, all four then broke away from
the chasing pack but could do nothing to change position, team mate
and race leader Craven fell victim to an electrical fault that ended
his race on lap four. By the time the chequered flag fell, Impey finished
in a credible fourth place.
After the race Impey said: “I felt pretty strong but my car was
suffering with some under steer so I found it difficult to challenge
the leaders”.
Race two:
In Sundays race, Impey made another good start and hung-on to second
through the first two corners but current champion, Chris Needham, got
the run on her and Impey was demoted to third. Meanwhile chasing hard
behind was Mark Terry, Impey new she had her work cut out, eventually
slipping back to fourth place after a small mistake, which is where she
finished.
After the race Impey said: "It was a good weekend overall and my
qualifying pace was really good, however I just need to turn that into
race pace now!"
She continued: "I have learned so much working
with Lanan Racing this weekend and the set-up of the car is the key.
I feel confident I can win races since running with the team! It’s
not cheap to run with a top team like Lanan and I just hope we can find
some sponsorship to run with them for the next round".
Impey would like to thank all of the support from her current sponsors,
SWAT, Oakingham Construction, Tyger Design and Print, family and friends.
It was a very important step for Impey this weekend, whose enrolment
on the Motor Sports Association (MSA) Academy’s Advanced Apprenticeship
in Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme marks her out as one of the UK’s
most promising young drivers.
Kat is next out at Brands Hatch on the 16/17th October rounds 13 and
14 of the BRSCC Formula 3 championship.
Kat Impey is currently inviting offers from potential sponsors to get
involved in new business advertisement opportunities.
